Blog – Writer Spotlight: Nancy H.

Nancy H. Proofreader and Writer

Here’s another fine writer, another veteran whom we rely on intensely in our day-to-day operations. Let’s read as she tells us her story…

Nancy, our writers live all over the U.S. Where do you currently reside?

I live in Athens, Georgia.

You’ve been writing for us for a while now, correct? How long have you been writing for us?

It’s been a little over a year.

Speaking about writing for us — how did you hear about us? Word-of-mouth, or in some other way?

I saw a post on Facebook from a trusted friend, and I followed up, and here I am. 🙂

We offer a lot of different types of writing assignments, on all sorts of topics, as I’m sure you know well. What do you personally like to write about the most? Any favorite topics or subject-matter?

One of the things I’ve enjoyed most about this job is learning about topics I know nothing about! When there are a lot of projects to choose from, I’ll pick the ones that I want to learn about first. If I had to name a few favorites, I guess I’d go with health-related topics, real estate, author or artist websites, travel, and anything related to houses – plumbing, HVAC, roofing, etc.

If we were looking over your shoulder as you write, what would that look like? Could you describe a little of the process you go through? How do you prep for a writing assignment and then actually complete the assignment? What’s your typical approach?

Well, I start with research, but it’s a cyclical process. Once I come up with an angle and do a little research on that angle, I start writing, but as I’m writing I often have questions and go to other sources to try to answer them. I like to bring in information from a variety of sources so that I’m providing something distinct and helpful. When the draft is finished, I proofread by using the computer’s text-to-speech function. That’s a recent discovery – it has really helped me find errors that my eyes don’t catch.

Would you say being able to work as one of our writers has helped you to gain experience and deepen your skills as a writer?

In what way(s), exactly?

I’ve gained confidence in my ability to learn about and write about virtually any topic under the sun, for one thing. I’ve also gotten experience with different types of writing, like press releases as well as long informational articles.

Do you think that this is something that you will be doing, let’s say, in 5 years maybe?

I hope so!

Do you do any other work as a freelancer — do you have your own website or personal blog where you share your writing and connect with the public?

I also do freelance work as a proofreader/editor, but I don’t have a website.

Thanks, Nancy! Well, there you have it, a little bit of personal information on another valued member of our writing team. Why not let Nancy — or any of our talented writers — complete your next writing project to perfection? Login Here: Blog: Publishing The Best Press Release Possible
