In my life, I’ve seen a LOT of businesses come and go. It’s pretty challenging to be successful as the owner or developer of any business today.
But to succeed you have to understand four fundamental realities:
First, in business, nothing ever stands still. Many who are successes today will end up in the poor house tomorrow. Why?
Because they, and their businesses, did not adapt to changing realities. Methods and tactics — and solutions — that worked yesterday — don’t work today.
Take a good, hard look at your business operations. Are you trying to travel in an automobile that has run out of fuel? It may be time to consider some new alternatives.
Secondly, pleasing your customer is always the right (and best) thing to do. Everything about your business must help you reach the goal of pleasing your customer.
100% satisfaction should always be your goal, because when customers are wonderfully pleased with the job you do, they come back for more.
Thirdly, failure does not have to be final. Here’s a secret – in order to get to “success” you have to fail, at least sometimes.
Very few people make one decision and achieve instant, complete success — and if they do, they might not hang on to that success. Why not? Because they have no history of mistakes that they have had to learn from.
Have you tried, and tried, and tried, and failed? GOOD. So have I. Believe it or not, the best way to succeed … is to fail!
Finally, you have to embrace this truth: You cannot get to where you want to be in business without the help of others — good people — to help you when you need it. You need to have good staff, excellent mentors, and positive supporters. You can’t do it all alone.
