Brows are back; completely, totally, irrevocably back, and by the looks of things – here to stay. Forget the days of over-plucked eyebrows and thin high arches, the new brow is all about thickness, depth and texture. With the likes of Cara Delevingne paving the way for the new, bolder brow, it’s time to re-think the way we do our brows, and step on the big brow bandwagon.

Whether you’re a pencil girl or a powder girl, if you follow these tips and tricks you’ll be sure to get those big bold brows everyone is currently coveting in no time.

1. Prep your brows – Like many things in the makeup world, preparation is key. Make sure your brows are in a good condition by combing them through with Vaseline at night, and neaten up any strays with tweezers – but don’t get carried away! The key to good looking brows is keeping their natural shape, which means no tweezing above the brow! Follow the line of the brow and only tweeze odd strays or hairs directly under the highest point of the brow – underneath remember, never tweeze above the brow!

2. Invest in a good quality brow pencil or powder. Personally, if you’re aiming for big thick brows, powder is your best bet. Youngblood Cosmetics do an amazing brow kit called the ‘Brow Artiste’, which comes with two shades of powder so you can customise your shade, as well as wax to keep your brows in place.

3. Make sure you are using the correct brush for your brows. Application must be precise if you want to get a clean line, so use a specific brow brush or angled eyeliner brush to get the right shape for your brows.

4. Using your chosen product, follow the line of your natural brown and thicken and darken as you go. It’s definitely a case of trial and error, but the key is to lightly extend the powder or pencil around your natural brow to add thickness and length. Obviously don’t get too carried away – little by little is imperative here.

5. Don’t worry if you make mistakes, practice makes perfect and it’s easy to cover brow pencil/powder up with foundation.

6. Use wax to keep your brows in place or spray with a setting powder if you prefer. This isn’t a necessary step but will help keeping your brows from smudging as the day progresses.

7. Highlight your brow bone with a pale highlighting powder or liquid, to draw attention to your brows and give you a glowing complexion.
