3. Deleted conviction. If your past conviction was erased, employers cannot ask about it and it cannot be reported on. However, they can still ask you about your offences when you were a juvenile as long as they are not expunged.

4. Pot Bust. Employers cannot ask you about marijuana arrest that occurred 2 years ago, but being the leading supplier to the LA County is another story. They will find out about that.

5. The 7 Years Rule. Employers can only ask about crimes and convictions that happened within 7 years. If you were convicted more than 7 years ago, it is illegal to use the crime against you. If you were convicted 8 years ago but served your sentence for 2 years, it will show up on the report.

6. The Exceptions. There are jobs that can go beyond seven years and use that information with no limit. These include jobs in childcare, alarm companies, private investigator agencies, phone companies, finance, pharmacies, elderly care, education, and law enforcement.
