Jen, tell us a bit about yourself. Where were you born and where in the US do you currently live?<\/strong><\/p>\n I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. I currently reside 30 minutes away in a town called Tooele, Utah.<\/p>\n How long have you been writing for us? I think you’ve been with us for a very long time now (around 2010 I think) — and how did you find out about us in the first place?<\/strong><\/p>\n I have been with this company for 7 years! A friend of mine was doing working for this company. She told me to give it a try, before I knew it, I gave up my full time job in the city and started working from home. It was the best decision I could have made.<\/p>\n You sure have written a TON of content for our customers over the years. What types of articles and other content do you like writing about — do you have any favorite topics or subjects?<\/strong><\/p>\n My favorite topics to write about are things like landscaping, relationships, home remodeling and pet topics.<\/p>\n Describe just a bit your writing process. How do you prepare for writing and actually execute on a customer order, step-by-step. What’s the process you follow?<\/strong><\/p>\n I use my smartphone a lot. It’s very handy for finding work. I have a spare bedroom in my home which is used as my office. I don’t have any small kids at home, so that’s not an issue. I have my laptop that is used for writing, then I have another laptop that is used for research. I go to the website for the client and learn more about what they have to offer. I always check the “FAQ’s” or “Services” section. This offers a lot of info in one area. I use subheadings, so that makes it easy to stick with each small topic. Before I know it, I have met my word count and it’s time to wrap things up.<\/p>\n When you encounter it, how do you personally overcome “writer’s block”?<\/strong><\/p>\n Honestly? I use essential oils as a way to relax. I have a bottle of Ylang-Ylang that I use on my forehead several times a day. It helps me to relax and focus. At this point, my mind just opens up. If I am still struggling, I do more research and it always comes to me. I also like to look out the window while I write, especially on days with bad weather. It’s peaceful and helps me to focus.<\/p>\n How would you say being able to work as one of our writers has helped you to gain experience and deepen your skills as a writer?<\/strong><\/p>\n I like this company because they always challenge me to do better. I never dreamed that I would be earning a living as a writer. English writing wasn’t my best subject in school. I find myself constantly reading articles online, not because I am interested in the topic, but because I am interested in the format and writing style.<\/p>\n Many content producers today are working from their own homes — and that can be a challenge. What do you do to minimize distractions and achieve a professional environment, even while working out of your home?<\/strong><\/p>\n It’s just my husband and I, and our little dog who lies at my feet. The house is pretty quiet. I’ve found that if my house is in order, I can focus more on my work. If I can’t focus, I throw in a load of laundry or do the dishes. I keep my office tidy, just as though I were expecting someone to drop by. That generally helps.<\/p>\n Do you do any other work as a freelancer — do you have your own website or personal blog where you share your writing and connect with the public?<\/strong><\/p>\n My only other job is a school bus driver.
