Grand Canyon National Park (GNCP) is one of the most spectacular areas in the entire U.S. In fact, the canyon is well known all around the world for its beautiful colors and immense size; it measures 277 miles in length.

Unless you know your way around or you're on a Grand Canyon coach tour, you might have trouble finding the best places to view the most important landmarks. So, if you're interested in a scenic, cost-effective way to see this magnificent place, you should consider taking a Grand Canyon motor coach ride.

Lay of the Land

The Colorado River carved the Grand Canyon out of rock millions of years ago, and in the process it created some unbelievable views and unique formations that draw tourists from around the globe. Catching the sun set over the canyon is a popular activity as is hiking the South Rim Bright Angel Trail. Some people take to the Colorado River and float down river on a raft while taking in the natural beauty of the area.

Typically, canyon coach trips head for the West Rim or the South Rim. The South Rim trips take an entire day so those usually start when the sun comes up. Most tour operators offer a convenient pickup and drop-off service for passengers staying at the Las Vegas Strip hotels.

South Rim bus tours focus on the Yavapai, Mather and Yaki lookout points. From each of these points you can see breathtaking views. Another stop is Grand Canyon Village where you can dine in a restaurant, shop in interesting stores, and visit unique galleries and museums. Be prepared for a day packed full of fun and sightseeing as your bus will take off from Vegas around 7:30 a.m. and not return until 9:00 p.m.

Grand Canyon West

The drive to the West Rim is not as long, it only takes about 2 hours to get there from Vegas. On it, you will get to see the massive Hoover Dam and beautiful Lake Mead. Choose a tour with an itinerary that stops at the Hualapai Indian Village in addition to Guano and Eagle Points. The village is worth seeing as it has Native American dwellings and an outdoor amphitheater.

You will get to choose different tour packages offered by various companies. The most comprehensive package includes a helicopter ride to the floor of the canyon, a boat ride down the Colorado, and an unlimited pass to the amazing Grand Canyon Skywalk. A tour like that lets you enjoy the Grand Canyon from many unique perspectives, and is a lot of fun too.

You will find other tour options too. If you want to pay more, you can arrange a custom trip for your group. These trips offer a very personal experience and have limited seating. Although they don't last as long as a typical South Rim motor coach ride, the included meals are better and you'll have unrestricted access to your tour guides. You'll find these tours to be a little more enjoyable that the basic bus tours. Whatever tour you decide to take, be sure to reserve your seat at least two weeks in advance, especially if your family or group requires multiple seats.

The best place to start is by reading the internet sites of Grand Canyon bus tour operators. You can make your reservations online and even pay for your tour. Most companies have tour packages that include meals and other extras. Don't wait until the last minute though, or the tour you want may be already booked full.
