If you were to take digital scales apart you would find whether they weigh heavy objects or light ones or whether they have high accuracy or low accuracy they have a lot in common. And these common features are a load cell comprising essentially of strain gauges, a platform on which the object to be weighed is to be placed, the housing with the electronics and the indicator.

And you may feel if two digital scales both use high quality components then they will have similar performance. But that is not the case a digital scale is not just about having great components it is about bringing them together correctly as well. And that brings us to the important issue of off center accuracy.

When weighing an object one has to place it on the platform. And though one will make a reasonable effort to place it on the center of platform it may not be placed exactly in the center of the platform. Now if the scale is not designed well when the weight is not placed exactly in the center of the platform then a different amount of stress may reach the strain gauges causing a different amount of strain. This would in turn affect the accuracy and repeatability of the reading.

Therefore a scales platform and load cells have to be designed and brought together in such a way that no matter where the object is placed on the platform the amount of strain caused is the same. This will give the scale off center accuracy and make it easy to use. You will not have to take care when you place the object on the scale platform about where you have placed so long as it is placed properly on the platform and not touching the floor or an object nearby.

Floor scales are used to weigh heavy objects and placing them exactly in the center of the platform would take a lot of effort. Therefore off center accuracy is very important for floor scales which high quality ones will have. You can know more at http://scalesforweighing.tumblr.com/.
